FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
SHOULD I SEE THE SAME PRACTITIONER FOR EVERY TREATMENT?
It’s up to you! We work collaboratively, so any practitioner you see will have access to your file and be fully informed about your case, Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment plan. This means that if your schedule doesn’t allow for you to see the same practitioner each week this isn’t an issue. The Yin team has intentionally been established to ensure consistency and excellence of care, whilst still enabling your treatment focus to be tailored to you as an individual and where you might be with your current symptoms and schedule.
Our approach to IVF support is supported by numerous evidenced based studies and years of clinical experience. We are passionate about keeping this focus current and update our team approach collectively as new evidence evolves.
DO YOU ONLY TREAT PEOPLE TRYING TO GET PREGNANT?
While we do have a particular focus when it comes to fertility, supporting IVF, pregnancy and hormonal health, we are a general practice that treats everything including pain, digestive issues, insomnia, stress and anxiety.
Because Chinese medicine looks at the body holistically, we often find that whilst treating the main complaint (eg focussing on fertility) that people start to notice other improvements. We like to call them positive side effects! Typically, one of the first responses is an increased sense of well being and improved resilience to stress, but we also often see positive changes in things like sleep, digestion and energy too.
HOW DO I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?
IIf you need to cancel or reschedule, please let reception know as soon as you can by phone 0466 331 737 or by emailing hello@yinwellnessbrisbane.com. Please note that text messages sent to our mobile number after hours may not be received until the next day, so if you need to cancel after hours for the following day, email will be more helpful.
We often have a waitlist for busy time slots, so we are grateful for as much notice as possible to allow us to offer the appointment to another client. Please note our cancellation policy requests 24 hours notice, so appointments altered within 24 hours of the scheduled treatment time will result in a 50% fee.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME FOR TREATMENT?
Weekly is best evidence practice, ideally beginning 12 weeks pre conception however we are aware of the time and financial constraints of life and there is never any pressure if you can only come fortnightly or monthly; we’ll do our best to support you every way we can.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY INITIAL CONSULTATION AND FIRST TREATMENT?
Your first visit with us will include a comprehensive consultation, a Chinese medicine diagnosis and an acupuncture treatment.
Prior to your appointment, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire including details of your treatment focus (e.g. fertility) but also many other questions which may at first seem unrelated (e.g. your sleep, digestion, energy, emotions etc). This is all very relevant to us (and no such thing as TMI here). This aids us in understanding your Chinese medicine pattern and enables us to tailor your treatment specifically to you.
In your first session, one of our experienced practitioners will go through your questionnaire and medical history along with a brief physical assessment including taking your pulses and looking at your tongue. No medical documentation or lab results are necessary, but our practitioners are more than happy to look over any information that you’d like to bring in, for example blood results, your IVF medication plan and/or semen analysis. This detail can also help us to integrate with your broader health (fertility) plans and also refine your Chinese medicine diagnosis. However, these reports are really just “the icing on the cake” as the beauty of Chinese medicine is that we can assess you as you present in each session.
Your acupuncture treatment will take approximately 40 minutes with the appointment length extending up to 90 minutes for an initial consult and 60 mins for a follow up. The length is dependent on the time taken in consultation between the client and practitioner. At Yin we value clients feeling heard and understood, and as such, initial appointment times may vary between 60 and 90 minutes to allow for a comprehensive consultation as needed.

DO YOU TREAT MEN?
Yes! Male factor (sperm quality) makes up for around 40 to 50% of infertility. It takes approximately 3 months for sperm cells to fully develop and therefore just as important to focus on preconception care for the male also.
